Hurricanes Provide Update on Frederik Andersen’s Injury
The Carolina Hurricanes brass continues to hold their breath as starting netminder Frederik Andersen recently went down with a non-contact injury and frankly it didn't look good. The team has yet to announce just how long Andersen is going to be sidelined and word is the team's starting netminder will be re-evaluated a week's time.
With the postseason around the corner, the Hurricanes need Andersen to be at the tip top of his game. He's enjoyed a massive season in his first in red and white and is likely a finalist for the Vezina trophy as the league's best goaltender this season.
Carolina has turned to Antti Raanta in the mean time who is one of the best backups in the league, however they are desperately going to miss Andersen if he's unable to dress in the playoffs. The Danish netminder has a history of knee injuries dating back to his time with the Toronto Maple Leafs, so there is certainly some cause for concern.
Andersen has recorded a 35-14-3 record on the season, tallying a .922 save % with four shutouts. The Hurricanes have five games remaining in the regular season schedule and it's likely they start the postseason with Raanta in the crease for Game 1.
