Kraken Sign First-Ever Draft Pick
The Seattle Kraken have signed Matty Beniers to a three-year, entry-level contract. With that, the team's first-ever draft pick is expected to join the Kraken immediately.
Although Beniers would have made Seattle's roster at the beginning of the season, he decided to play one more year with the University of Michigan. It turned out to be a good call on his end, as he had 20 goals and 23 assists in 37 games with the team. This was after an already impressive 24-point campaign in 24 games with the school the year before.
The Kraken currently sport a 23-43-6 record and are at the bottom of the Pacific Division. Thus, they of course are not fighting for a playoff spot, so the end of the season does not carry too much pressure. Therefore, it's a great time for Beniers to debut and show the NHL squad what he's capable of.
Nevertheless, this is excellent news for the Kraken, as their best prospect has officially committed to playing for them. Let's see if the youngster makes an impact immediately.
