Lightning Sign Veteran Goaltender To Extension

The Tampa Bay Lightning have signed Brian Elliott to a one-year, $900,000 contract extension.

Although Elliott has not seen too much action as Tampa Bay's backup goaltender, he's been excellent when called upon. In 18 games this campaign, he has a 9-3-3 record, 2.23 goals-against average, and a .921 save percentage. It's hard to expect more from a number-two goalie, so it's understandable as to why the Lightning have opted to give him another deal.

Elliott's experience is also something that the Lightning likely value. In 518 career games between the Ottawa Senators, St. Louis Blues, Calgary Flames, Philadelphia Flyers, and Lightning, he sports a 265-158-52 record, 2.52 GAA, and .911 save percentage.

If Elliott can maintain this form next season, his $900,000 cap hit will certainly be one that shouldn't anger any Lightning fans. Overall, this has the potential to be a good signing for Tampa Bay, so it will be interesting to see how the 37-year-old performs from here.
