Montreal Canadiens Sign Prospect
The Montreal Canadiens have signed Emil Heineman to a three-year, entry-level contract. It will begin during the 2022-23 campaign.
Heineman was one of the main pieces that the Canadiens received from the Calgary Flames in the Tyler Toffoli trade earlier this season. This wasn't the first time where Heineman was traded during his short career, too, as the Florida Panthers moved him in the Sam Bennett swap last season.
Heineman just completed his first full season in the SHL with Leksands IF. In 43 games, he had seven goals to go along with six assists. Overall, it wasn't necessarily a dominant campaign from the 20-year-old, but it's also important to note that he was playing against much older competition.
Although Heineman's contract does not begin until next season, he will be beginning his North American professional career immediately. This is because he has also signed a tryout contract with the Laval Rocket of the AHL. It will be intriguing to see how he performs during this final portion of the season from here.
