NHL Rumors: 2 San Jose Sharks Offseason Trade Candidates

The San Jose Sharks are finishing up a disappointing season as the team will once again miss the Stanley Cup playoffs. With the recent news of management changes coming in the shark tank, expect to see a number of big moves from the hockey club this upcoming summer. Let's focus in on a couple of Sharks who could find themselves being shopped for trade this offseason:

Marc-Edouard Vlasic

The Sharks have a number of seasoned defensemen on huge contracts and Marc-Edouard Vlasic is the one that's most likely to be dealt. It's going to take salary retention on his $7 million annual figure to even get teams to consider acquiring the 35-year-old and there's a no-movement clause to consider. One destination that could make sense is the Montreal Canadiens. Vlasic's trade protection goes down to only three teams come 2023-24 so if it's not this offseason, it will certainly be the next. This season the Montreal native has recorded 14 points in 62 games after only recording six points in 51 games last season. Look for conversations to pick up around the draft.

James Reimer

The veteran netminder is having a good season on a bad team this year and could find himself on the move this offseason. The Sharks acquired Kaapo Kahkonen from the Minnesota Wild at the deadline and look for the team to hand over the keys to the crease to the 25-year-old. Reimer on the other hand is 34 years old and is signed through next season at a very reasonable $2.25 million on the books. At this number along with a .915 save %, there's going to be heavy interest. He holds no-trade protection against five teams of his choice but that shouldn't really come into play here. Look for the Edmonton Oilers, Washington Capitals, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Chicago Blackhawks to all kick tires this offseason.
