NHL Rumors: 2 Winnipeg Jets Offseason Trade Candidates

The Winnipeg Jets are in tough to make the Stanley Cup playoffs this season. The team is four points out of the final spot in the west, however have played more games. If the team can't find success in 2021-22 expect to see some major changes this upcoming summer. Let's dive into a couple players who may be on their way out of town should things go south for the Jets:

Mark Scheifele

There's been several rumblings out of Winnipeg about Mark Scheifele's role on the team. The 29-year-old is signed through the 2023-24 season at $6.12 million. He holds a modified no-trade clause which protects him against 10 teams of his choice. While he's been inconsistent at times, his numbers still stack up in Winnipeg. The former first-round pick has recorded 64 points in 63 games so far this season, and would fetch the Jets a huge return if he was dealt. While his offensive production isn't the issue, it's his 200-foot game that has garnered a ton of attention of late. If things don't change down the stretch look for management to put his name out their this summer to see where the interest lies.

Dylan DeMelo

Another candidate for the Winnipeg Jets would be Dylan DeMelo. The right-handed defenseman had his name out there prior to the trade deadline but nothing materialized. This summer could be different as management may want to cash in while they still can. The 28-year-old blueliner is signed through the 2023-24 season and has a no-trade clause that protects him against six teams. So far in 63 games he's scored once and recorded 11 total points. The team was hopeful he'd find more offense when they signed him long term, but that hasn't been the case at all. Considering the amount of long term contracts on the Jets blue line, look for DeMelo to be shopped at the NHL entry draft this summer.
