NHL Rumors: 3 Potential Landing Spots For Matt Dumba

With the Ryan Suter and Zach Parise buyout penalties jumping up to just under $13 million next season, the Minnesota Wild will be forced to move salary. One player who has come up in the rumor mill because of this is Matt Dumba. The 27-year-old's $6 million cap hit ends after the 2022-23 season, so it could make sense to trade him before losing via free agency for nothing. Let's look at three potential landing spots for him.

New Jersey Devils: Before the trade deadline, Devils GM Tom Fitzgerald noted that he wants to make hockey trades moving forward. With the Devils developing a strong core of young players, it makes sense that he wants the club to be more competitive in 2022-23. With P.K. Subban's contract expiring, they will have $9 million to work with. Dumba would of course be a major upgrade to the right side, so perhaps they will call Minnesota about him.

Carolina Hurricanes: Although the Hurricanes have a very deep blueline, they were linked to several d-man before the deadline. Most notably, John Klingberg, a right-handed defenseman, was on their radar. Thus, they already have expressed a desire to strengthen their right side, and if they lose Tony DeAngelo to free agency, that will be even more the case. Thus, Dumba is a player who could be on their radar this summer.

Los Angeles Kings: The Kings have taken a major step forward this season, as they are currently looking to cement a playoff spot. With their group of veterans getting older, it could make them have another aggressive summer. Adding Dumba would help solidify their top four, so they absolutely should consider this possibility.
