NHL Rumors: 3 Potential Landing Spots For John Gibson
We recently reported that the Anaheim Ducks are expected to listen to trade offers for John Gibson this summer. The star goalie should get a lot of attention from around the league, but these three teams seem the most likely to target him. Let's now go over why.
New Jersey Devils: Although the Devils have had a disastrous 2021-22 season, it's clear that injuries and unreliable goaltending have been the major reasons for that. The team appears to have their long-term core set, but if they want to make a push in the immensely deep Metropolitan Division, they will need to get a serious upgrade in goal. Thus, it would be shocking if they don't call the Ducks about Gibson.
Edmonton Oilers: The Oilers have had goaltending issues all season. Mikko Koskinen's disastrous contract ends after this season, so they will be gaining much-needed cap space. With that, Mike Smith's injury trouble makes the idea of being their starting goalie next season a bit unsettling. With all of this, they absolutely should be jumping into the Gibson sweepstakes.
Washington Capitals: The Capitals are another playoff-bound team that has had goalie trouble this campaign. The Vitek Vanecek-Ilya Samsonov tandem doesn't appear to be a long-term option for them. Although getting Gibson would naturally force them to trade one of them, it would be worth it at the end of the day.
