NHL Rumors: 3 Potential Trade Destinations for Mark Scheifele
The Winnipeg Jets did not meet expectations this season and there's changes on the way this upcoming offseason. Supposed to be a playoff bound team, the Jets now gear up for a busy summer and one name to keep an eye on is center Mark Scheifele. Let's examine three potential trade destinations if the Jets decide for major shakeups:
Anaheim Ducks
The Ducks are in the middle of a transition period as long-time captain Ryan Getzlaf is hanging up the skates at season's end. Anaheim will be handing over the keys to Trevor Zegras and a player like Mark Scheifele down the middle would provide some stability and experience and could be a perfect replacement for Getzlaf in California. The Ducks have shown in the past with the Jack Eichel trade offer they mean business and are looking to make a splash up front to their forward group. While it's unlikely Scheifele gets moved to a western conference team, if there's one favorite the Ducks should be considered.
Philadelphia Flyers
The Flyers are looking to re-tool on the fly and have a gaping hole down the middle with Claude Giroux leaving town. Management has stated it's going to be a bold offseason where anything is on the table and adding a veteran like Scheifele could be a huge kick-start to their re-tooling. There's been chatter about Ryan Ellis not being interested in sticking around the Flyers, perhaps he could be involved here. Regardless, Scheifele is a name circled in Philly and look out for some offseason chatter between the two clubs.
Detroit Red Wings
The Red Wings are a team looking to get over the hump and have been stock piling young talent for several years now. It could be time for them to pounce on some talent in their prime and Scheifele fits the bill. So far this season he's collected 70 points in 67 games and would boost the top-six in Motown for next season and beyond. Scheifele does have trade protection against 10 teams so there's a chance a bottom-feeding team like the Red Wings could be on the list, however a long chat with Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman would go a long way as he was a child hood hero of Scheifele's growing up.
