NHL Rumors: Canadiens Expected to Make Goalie Changes This Summer
While the Montreal Canadiens continue to finish out their regular season, some have shifted their focus to the upcoming offseason. It's been a great site to see Carey Price playing hockey games once again and there's certainly a chance Price remains with the team to begin the 2022-23 season. Jake Allen however, is expected to be moved.
Several hockey insiders confirmed Allen was on the trade block this season before he was injured and the Canadiens would of had no issues moving their back up tender. Allen is 31, signed through next season at a very reasonable $2.87 million cap hit. He's appeared in 35 games this season, posting a .905 save %.
Among the teams expected to be interested this summer will be the Edmonton Oilers, Philadelphia Flyers, New Jersey Devils, and Buffalo Sabres. The Flyers and Devils especially will be re-tooling and looking for another veteran netminder.
I think the Habs should really explore a deal for Jake Allen in exchange for assets at the draft and then give Montembeault a deal. He deserves it, especially in the context that this team is in.

We love Jake Allen, but you gotta wonder if #Habs maybe try and trade him for an asset all while saving 1.5-2M of cap space. He had a very easily digestible contract and is still an extremely good goalie.

Might believe Monty can continue to improve, and can be signed for cheap. https://t.co/o8vqqO1g9f
As for Price, he's going to be given every opportunity to return full-time next season as the starter and let's hope he does just that as the NHL is a better place with him involved.
