NHL Rumors: Ducks To Take Calls On Goaltender
According to Eric Stephens of The Athletic, the Anaheim Ducks will likely listen to trade offers for John Gibson this offseason.
Although the Ducks took a step forward this season, it's clear that they are very much still rebuilding. They traded pending UFAs Hampus Lindholm, Rickard Rakell, Josh Manson, and Nic Deslauriers before the deadline passed. With that, longtime captain Ryan Getzlaf is set to retire after this season is over. Thus, the idea of them trading Gibson is there, but it would need to be one massive offer for them to even consider it.
When at his best, Gibson is one of the top goaltenders in the entire sport. The Ducks are also in no place to rush a move centering around him, as he carries a $6.4 million cap hit until the end of the 2026-27 season. Therefore, they are in a position where they still could keep him as they build on their roster.
Nevertheless, this is an interesting development and one that hockey fans should pay attention to during the offseason. Two teams who certainly could be in the market for Gibson include the Edmonton Oilers and Washington Capitals.
