NHL Rumors: Golden Knights To Extend Forward
According to Kevin Allen, the Vegas Golden Knights are expected to sign Reilly Smith to a contract extension after this season.
Smith is a pending UFA and had been in the rumor mill before the trade deadline because of their limited cap space. Yet, the Golden Knights elected to keep the veteran winger for the rest of the season, and this potential development makes it easy to understand why.
Smith is one of the rare original Golden Knights who are still with the club, so fans would certainly love to see him stay put. He also is still an effective top-six forward at 31 years old, and the truth is in his statistics. In 56 games this campaign, he has 16 goals and 22 assists. That kind of production is definitely solid, so they would be wise to retain his services if possible.
Nevertheless, this is something to keep an eye on after the season is completed.
