NHL Rumors: New York Islanders Trading 2 Forwards This Summer

The New York Islanders were a disappointment in 2021-22 and now are closing out their schedule look ahead to next season. The year started off quite poorly on Long Island and even with a 6-4-0 record in their past 10 games, the Isles are still 15 points behind the Boston Bruins for the final playoff position in the eastern conference. These last couple of weeks have been an audition for many Islanders players and it's likely changes are coming this summer. Let's take a look at two forwards who are most likely getting moved:

Jean-Gabriel Pageau

The Islanders center holds no-trade protection, however this summer that changes to only 16 teams across the league. Pageau carries a big ticket at $5 million through the 2025-26 season and he's been inconsistent on the ice, collecting only 36 points in 73 games. While his game isn't all about filling up the score sheet, the 29-year-old hasn't met expectations since signing his long-term extension two years ago. Look for general manager Lou Lamoriello to get creative at the NHL entry draft and Pageau could very well be moved. The Anaheim Ducks and Buffalo Sabres are two teams to keep an eye on.

Josh Bailey

We could probably put Kyle Palmieri in this spot, however his full no-trade protection makes it a tough sell. Bailey on the other hand doesn't hold any trade protection and could be moved to the highest bidder this offseason. The 32-year-old is signed through the 2023-24 season at $5 million annually and has collected 37 points in 67 games this season. New York is in desperate need of some shuffling up front on their roster and a veteran like Bailey could be the odd man out, due in large part to many others hold no-trade clauses. He's put up 50 points in 71 Stanley Cup playoff games so there's certainly going to be a market for his services.
