NHL Rumors: Oilers Considering Extending Forward

According to Allan Mitchell, the Edmonton Oilers are having discussions over the possibility of signing Evander Kane to a long-term extension.

After a hectic offseason, Kane had his contract terminated by the San Jose Sharks. Due to all the controversy surrounding him, there was some concern about him inking a deal with the Oilers after the fact. Yet, he has been an outstanding fit since his arrival, as he has 16 goals, 13 assists, and a plus-17 rating in 35 games. Furthermore, the Oilers as a collective unit have performed much better with the 30-year-old winger in their lineup.

Although it's easy to understand why Edmonton would want to have Kane in their lineup for several more seasons, it may be challenging to finalize a deal with him. This is because the Oilers have limited cap space and other areas that they need to focus on, too. This is especially the case when it comes to goaltending.

Alas, it will be interesting to see what occurs with Kane and the Oilers from here.
