NHL Rumors: Red Wings Forward Wants To Stay Put
While speaking with Michigan Live's Ansar Khan, Detroit Red Wings forward Sam Gagner noted that he would like to stay with the team past this season.
The chances of Gagner staying in Detroit certainly seem to be there, as head coach Jeff Blashill also has stated that he wants the veteran to stick around. Gagner has been praised for his strong leadership with the rebuilding squad, so it could benefit everyone involved to give him another contract.
Gagner has quietly been putting up a solid season, too, as he has 12 goals and 16 assists in 71 games. This is the best pace of production we have seen from the 32-year-old in quite some time, so that also could help his case of earning an extension with the team.
It will be intriguing to see if Gagner ends up remaining with the Red Wings for next season. With the team having a plethora of young players, it wouldn't be bad to keep him around as a mentor for them.
