Red Wings Sign Forward
The Detroit Red Wings have signed Turner Elson to a one-year contract for the remainder of this season.
This is such a cool signing to see. Elson has just one game of NHL experience under his belt, and that came during the 2015-16 season with the Calgary Flames. In that lone game, he recorded an assist. Now, after six whole years, he will finally have the chance to play at the NHL level again.
Elson has played the last five seasons with the Red Wings AHL affiliate, the Grand Rapids Griffins. This season has been his best with the club, however, as he set career-highs in goals (21), assists (24), and points (45). Now, he will be aiming to impress at the NHL level in Detroit.
If Elson performs well, perhaps it will open the door to another NHL contract for next season. Yet, for now, it's just a feel-good story to see him get back into the league after so long.
