Red Wings Sign Goaltender
The Detroit Red Wings have signed Magnus Hellberg to a one-year contract.
It has not been specified when the contract will begin, but it seems far more likely that it will for next season. This is because the 2021-22 season is coming to a close and Hellberg would need to be placed on waivers if it's this season - as he was an international free agent.
Hellberg has not been in the NHL since the 2016-17 campaign with the New York Rangers. He instead has spent each of the last five seasons in the KHL, where he played for Kunlun Red Star, SKA St. Petersburg, and HK Sochi. Overall, he has had a lot of success there, as he had a .927 SV% in 169 regular-season games in the league. Now, he will be aiming to have those numbers translate over to the NHL.
Nevertheless, the Red Wings have added another goaltender to their system. It will be intriguing to see if he can land himself a spot on the NHL roster from here.
