Ryan Getzlaf To Retire After 2021-22 Season

Ryan Getzlaf's excellent career is coming to a close. The longtime Anaheim Ducks captain has announced that he will be retiring after the completion of the 2021-22 season.

Although Getzlaf is calling it a career, it's fair to say that he is still an effective NHLer. In 49 games on the season, he has three goals to go along with 28 helpers. Yet, even with this being so, the 36-year-old center is ready to move on from professional hockey.

Getzlaf has put together an extremely strong career and will forever be known as one of the greatest Ducks ever. In 1,150 career games, all with Anaheim, the 2003 first-round pick has 282 goals, 731 assists, and 1,013 points. With these numbers, he leads the franchise in games played, assists, and points. He also is a three-time All-Star and of course played a major role in their 2007 Stanley Cup championship.

Although the Ducks were major sellers at the trade deadline, he elected not to waive his no-movement clause regardless. With this, he will be retiring as a member of the only franchise he has ever known. That's just amazing to see.

Nevertheless, enjoy these final moments with Ryan Getzlaf in the NHL.
