Sabres Sign First-Overall Pick

The Buffalo Sabres have signed 2021 first-overall pick Owen Power to a three-year, entry-level contract. With that, he is also expected to make his NHL debut against the Toronto Maple Leafs next Tuesday.

After being selected with the first pick of last year's draft, Power opted to play a second season at the University of Michigan. He certainly impressed during the campaign, as he had three goals and 29 assists in 33 games. This was a notable increase in production compared to his freshmen season, as he had 16 points in 26 games then.

The Sabres view Power as being the future number one defenseman on their roster. When looking at the kind of season he just put up in college, it's fair to state that the 19-year-old has an immense amount of potential and could become just that.

Although Buffalo has had an extremely hard last decade, they have been showing signs of hope this campaign. Now that they have officially signed Power, that's only another big reason for fans to possess more optimism over the direction of where the franchise is going,
