Sharks General Manager Steps Down

San Jose Sharks general manager Doug Wilson has announced that he is stepping down from the role.

Wilson had been on medical leave since the beginning of the season. With this recent development, the team has also announced that interim GM Joe Will will remain as the team's interim GM.

Wilson spent an impressive 19 seasons as GM for the Sharks. Although his time in the role did not lead to a Stanley Cup, they had several excellent seasons. The Sharks made the playoffs 10 straight seasons from 2004 to 2014, the Western Conference Finals five times, Stanley Cup Final once, and won five Pacific Division titles.

Yet, with the Sharks no longer being Stanley Cup contenders, it may be best for the team to sport a new GM to help them through that. At the end of the day, Wilson's contributions to San Jose should not be overlooked. It is very rare for a GM to last with one team for almost two decades, and he deserves immense praise for doing so.
