Sharks Sign Defenseman To Extension
The San Jose Sharks have signed Nikolai Knyzhov to a one-year, $850,000 contract extension.
Knyzhov has missed the entirety of the 2021-22 season due to a lower-body injury. Yet, even with this being the case, San Jose is still showing trust in him with his contract extension. Furthermore, he also should be back in their top six for next season.
Knyzhov cemented himself a spot in the Sharks' defensive group as a rookie last season. In 56 games, he had two goals to go along with 10 assists. He also did not shy away from the physical side of the game in the slightest, as he had an impressive 84 hits. Once the 6-foot-3 d-man is finally ready to return, this aspect of his play will make the Sharks tougher to go up against.
Overall, it's nice to see Knyzhov land this contract even with his current injury. Here's to hoping the 24-year-old is fully recovered this fall and continues to make progress with his development.
