WATCH: Panthers' Jonathan Huberdeau Makes NHL History
Jonathan Huberdeau is one of the underrated stars of the NHL. Playing with the Florida Panthers, the left-winger doesn't get a ton of media attention as things generally go under the radar in the sunshine state. It's time he gets his due as Huberdeau set an NHL record on Thursday night, setting the single-season assist record by a left-winger.
His name will forever be within the NHL record books as the Panthers star registered his 71st helper on Aleksander Barkov's goal against the Chicago Blackhawks. Huberdeau passed Joe Juneau who previously held the record from his 1992-93 season with the Boston Bruins. Others in the top five include hockey greats Michel Goulet, Mats Naslund and Kevin Stevens.
Huberdeau is having himself the best season of his career and is starting to create some buzz for the Hart Trophy. He's leading all NHL skaters in assists and ranks third overall in points with an impressive 94 in 67 games. None as historic as this one though, congrats Huby:
