NHL Rumors: 3 Potential Trade Destinations For Jeff Petry
The Montreal Canadiens shopped Jeff Petry at the trade deadline but was unable to find him a new home. However, once the offseason is officially here, the veteran d-man is expected to be made available again. Let's look at three teams who will be in the mix to acquire his services.
Dallas Stars: The Stars were heavily linked to Petry before the deadline. With John Klingberg now set to become an unrestricted free agent, it seems even more likely that they target him yet again. Petry will give them another top-four, right-handed defenseman. Furthermore, like what we saw from him at the end of the season, Petry is capable of producing offense from the point.
Philadelphia Flyers: The 2021-22 season was embarrassing for the Flyers. Even with this being so, it's been established that the team is looking to retool rather than rebuild. Given the fact that they had an interest in Petry this season, expect to see them jump into the sweepstakes again. Their defensive group needs serious help, and he'd give them a boost on their weak right side.
Detroit Red Wings: Will Petry head home and be moved to the Detroit Red Wings? It certainly seems possible. Detroit was linked to the veteran, and he would provide them with a good mentor for their young players and prospects. Furthermore, the Red Wings are a club on the rise, so that also could make the idea of playing there an alluring one for Petry.
