NHL Rumors: Canadiens Almost Traded Veteran Defenseman
According to Marco D'Amico, the Montreal Canadiens were very close to trading Jeff Petry before the deadline passed. GM Kent Hughes talked to multiple teams regarding the veteran defenseman, but the Canadiens didn't find a trade that they found acceptable.
The Canadiens holding on to Petry turned out to be the right decision at the end of the day. He finished the season in an extremely strong fashion and helped raise his trade value in the process. After a horrible start to the season, he completed it with six goals and 21 assists in 68 games.
The Canadiens are expected to shop Petry this summer and should have an easier time finding him a new home in the process. Alas, this is something to keep an eye on very closely once the playoffs are done.
