NHL Rumors: Devils Parting Ways With Several Players
According to Shayna Goldman, the New Jersey Devils will not be re-signing P.K. Subban, Mason Geertsen, Jimmy Vesey, Andrew Hammond, and Jon Gillies.
Subban's time in NJ ending is not very surprising. The veteran defenseman's $9 million cap hit will officially be off the books and this will allow the Devils to make moves elsewhere. Yet, with a cheap cap hit, he could be an effective bottom-pairing defenseman elsewhere.
The Devils claimed Geertsen off waivers from the Rangers during the start of the season. An old-fashioned enforcer, he failed to record a single point in 25 games but had a whopping 77 penalty minutes.
Vesey will be hoping to find another home for the 2022-23 season. The former Hobey Baker Award winner has been on four teams over his last three seasons. In 68 games this year, he had eight goals and seven helpers.
As for Hammond and Gillies, they each were called upon by the Devils due to their injury trouble in net. Both should have no trouble finding jobs at the AHL level for next season.
