NHL Rumors: Oilers Aiming To Keep Forward Around
According to Darren Dreger, the Edmonton Oilers are aiming to sign Evander Kane to a contract extension.
After an offseason full of controversy, Kane's contract with the San Jose Sharks was eventually terminated. The Oilers decided to give Kane a chance during a very rough patch of their season, and it ultimately has worked out marvelously. He has played very well with Connor McDavid, and the truth is in his stats. In 43 regular-season games with Edmonton, Kane recorded 22 goals and 17 assists.
Due to Kane's past, it is hard to determine whether or not the Oilers would be willing to give him a long-term extension at this specific juncture. It may be safer to go down the short-term route, but time will tell what happens on that front. At a minimum, however, if the Oilers have their way, Kane will be back in orange and blue next season.
