NHL Rumors: Penguins Forward Wants To Stay Put
While speaking with reporters, Rickard Rakell said that he is very open to the idea of signing a contract extension with the Pittsburgh Penguins this summer.
The Penguins acquired Rakell from the Anaheim Ducks at this season's trade deadline. In 19 regular-season games with the Pens following the move, he scored four goals and recorded nine assists. Due to injury, he only appeared in two playoff games and failed to record a point.
With the Penguins having fellow pending UFAs like Evgeni Malkin, Kris Letang, and Bryan Rust to focus on, it's hard to predict whether or not Rakell will be returning to Pittsburgh. Rakell also noted that he and the team haven't begun extension talks yet. That is something to keep an eye on from here.
