NHL Rumors: Rangers Pushing To Extend Forward
Before the trade deadline officially passed, the New York Rangers acquired Andrew Copp from the Winnipeg Jets. Although he is a pending UFA, the Rangers are hoping to make him more than a rental and sign him to an extension, according to Darren Dreger.
Copp has been such a good addition to the Rangers' lineup, so it makes all the sense in the world that they want to continue their relationship past this postseason. In 16 regular-season games with the Blueshirts following the trade, the 27-year-old had eight goals and 10 assists. Now, he will be aiming to carry that kind of offensive success to the playoffs.
Nevertheless, this is something to keep an eye on this summer. The Rangers would be wise to keep Copp around when looking at how well he has played in New York thus far. Yet, time will tell if both parties can finalize an extension.
