NHL Rumors: Senators Listening On 7th Pick

Following the result of the NHL Draft lottery on Tuesday night, it was reported by Bruce Garrioch of Postmedia that the Ottawa Senators are open for business regarding the 7th overall pick in this year's draft.

It has been well known that the Senators have had a lot of interest in Minnesota Wild forward Kevin Fiala who is coming off a career year where he scored 33 goals and 85 points in 82 games. With the Wild being tight on cap space and with Fiala expecting a big raise, he is very likely to be moved.

Here is where the Senators come into the picture starting with their seventh overall selection. Given Fiala's recent success it could take more than the 7th overall pick. However, Fiala isn't the only option for the Senators to trade their pick for.  After years of rebuilding, the Senators seem to want more established players to build up their lineup.

Given that the Senators are apparently looking for a power forward scoring type, the 7th overall pick can be very attractive for a team looking to get a certain player in the draft.

However, on the flip side, that pick could be expensive depending on what you are willing to give up.

It will be interesting to see if the Senators' pick actually does get moved before the pick is set to be announced at the draft on July 8th.
