Sharks Sign Forward Prospect
The San Jose Sharks have signed Mitchell Russell to a three-year, entry-level contract.
Russell just completed his fifth season in the OHL and put together his best campaign in the process. In 64 games, the 21-year-old right winger scored 41 goals and added 47 assists. During the previous season, he recorded 42 points in 51 games, so it's clear that he took a big step forward this year. Yet, he really took off during the playoffs, as he had 11 goals and 11 assists in just nine games.
The Sharks are in a position where they should take chances on undrafted prospects like Russell. At worst, they have added more depth to their system. Yet, if Russell can translate some of this offensive game to professional hockey, we could see him in San Jose later down the road.
