Lightning Prospect Finished In Tampa Bay
The Tampa Bay Lightning are losing one of their prospects, as Otto Somppi has signed a one-year contract with the Finnish Liiga's Luuko.
Somppi has spent the last four seasons with their AHL affiliate, the Syracuse Crunch. After having a 26-point campaign in 32 games with the club last season, his production went down in 2021-22. In 50 games on the year, he had just 23 points. Thus, perhaps this change of scenery could help him find his previous form.
If the Lightning elect to send Somppi a qualifying offer, the team will have control over his NHL rights if the 24-year-old decides to return to North America later down the road. However, for now, the center is heading back home to Finland.
