NHL Rumors: 3 Potential Destinations for Evander Kane
The Edmonton Oilers took a huge gamble signing Evander Kane after all the hoopla in San Jose. Turns out the move worked out very well as Kane was a force for the Oilers down the stretch and into the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Sure, there were moments that pissed off Connor McDavid and being suspended for an elimination game is a tough look, however the Oilers are likely going to be interested in bringing Kane back at the right price. One problem, there's going to be several teams interested and Edmonton may get priced out. Here's a few teams to watch as free agency opens July 13:
New Jersey Devils
The Devils are a team to watch as they are going to be aggressive this offseason and are looking for NHL proven scoring for their wings. They have a young core and are sitting pretty with over $25 million in cap space and the #2 overall pick at the draft. Kane checks off a lot of boxes for the team and there's a ton of potential here. The Devils won't be shy with their offer and it's likely coming as soon as they get the chance in mid-July. If Kane has interest in New Jersey is the $8 million-dollar question.
Detroit Red Wings
Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman continues to transition from rebuild to retool and could look at Kane for his top line. The team continues to be built as a hard-working group who is tough to play against and adding Kane to the likes of Tyler Bertuzzi and Moritz Seider would be fun to watch. Kane flying down the wing with Dylan Larkin could give opponents headaches. Detroit has over $33 million in cap space this summer so there's definitely room to make it work.
Los Angeles Kings
The Kings are in win-now mode as they look to make some more upgrades this upcoming offseason. The team needs some help on their left side of defense and some more fire power on their wings and Kane could be a perfect fit for their club. His combination of skill, speed and power is something that's rare in today's game and the Kings know him very well from his days battling them with the Sharks and of course most recently for scoring some heart-breakings goals against them in the first-round. Keep an eye on LA as general manager Rob Blake is going to try and get his team back into contention and adding a pure goal scorer who loves to mix it up in the dirty areas could go a long way.
