NHL Rumors: Claude Giroux Has Preferred Destination
Claude Giroux is set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer, but if he has it his way, he won't be testing the open market. According to Pierre LeBrun, the 34-year-old forward wants to stay with the Florida Panthers.
Giroux of course helped facilitate a trade to Florida before the trade deadline passed. The veteran had a no-movement clause with the Philadelphia Flyers, but in the end, he received his wish to play for a contender. Unfortunately for him, they of course would get swept in the second round by the Lightning. Yet, if things go according to his plan, he will have another chance to push for the Stanley Cup with the Panthers.
The Panthers have limited cap space, so they will need to get creative to re-sign Giroux. Perhaps they could convince him to take a bit of a discount given his desire to stay there. Alas, this is something to watch closely as the summer continues.
