NHL Rumors: Islanders Goaltender To Be Traded
Before the trade deadline, New York Islanders goaltender Semyon Varlamov was in the rumor mill. Although a trade did not come to fruition, that could change this summer, according to Frank Seravalli.
After the season that the Islanders had, it is clear that changes need to be made. With Ilya Sorokin being the goalie of the present and future for the team, it would make sense to move Varlamov as he enters the final year of his contract. This is especially true when noting that he carries a $5 million cap hit. That kind of cap space could help bring in another scoring forward that they desperately need.
Teams in need of goaltending help will certainly be calling the Islanders about Varlamov this summer. We will have to wait and see if the veteran gets dealt because of it.
