NHL Rumors: Maple Leafs Linked To Senators Goalie
According to Chris Johnston, the Toronto Maple Leafs could express interest in Ottawa Senators goaltender Matt Murray this offseason.
This is an interesting report by Johnston, as Murray has had his fair share of struggles since joining the Senators. After starting the 2021-22 season hot, he cooled off and was then injured. In 20 appearances, he sported a 5-12-2 record, 3.05 GAA, and .906 SV%. However, if the two-time Stanley Cup winner can find his previous form, he could be a solid addition to the Leafs' roster.
With Jack Campbell likely leaving through free agency, it could open the door to the team pursuing Murray. However, the Senators would also have to retain a portion of Murray's $6.25 million cap hit.
GM Kyle Dubas also was the GM of the Soo Greyhounds when Murray played there, so they have a connection. Perhaps this could help a move come to fruition. Alas, we will have to wait and see.
