NHL Rumors: Penguins Linked To Canadiens Defenseman

According to Marco D'Amico, the Pittsburgh Penguins have expressed some interest in Montreal Canadiens defenseman Jeff Petry.

Petry's name has been a notable one in the rumor mill since before the trade deadline passed, yet he is still a member of the Canadiens. We have seen teams like the Philadelphia Flyers, Dallas Stars, and Detroit Red Wings linked to him, but now Pittsburgh has joined the party.

Perhaps the Penguins view Petry as a potential replacement for Kris Letang if the latter leaves through free agency. However, Petry could still be a fine addition even if they successfully bring back Letang. They would need to send salary out to afford Petry, however. Alas, let's see if something comes from this.
