NHL Rumors: Why Pastrnak Wants Out Of Boston
More is being revealed about how the Boston Bruins/Bruce Cassidy divorce went down, and the discussion rages about how David Pastrnak's future might be tied into it.
Don Sweeney went to Bruce Cassidy's house on Monday to tell him he'd been fired. Prior to that, Cassidy said he had been told at exit meetings he'd be coaching into the final year of his contract. Totally understandable why he'd be pissed upon hearing that news

According to Bruins beat writer Joe Haggerty, the now-deposed head coach had been told at his exit meeting that he would be back to complete the final year of his contract. Shortly thereafter, Boston general manager Don Sweeney went to Cassidy's house to tell him he was fired.
This news didn't sit well not only with Cassidy, but in addition, Bruins' star winger David Pastrnak was apparently furious over the about-face, and is what's really at the root of his rumored disgust with Sweeney.
Pastrnak's agent, however, J.P. Barry, says it's simply not true that the winger won't sit down to negotiate a contract extension if Sweeney is still the GM.
Strong reporting from @FlutoShinzawa on David Pastrnak's future. Reached out to agent JP Barry, who spoke today with Pastrnak and GM Don Sweeney. Plan is for everyone to sit down in early July to discuss an extension. Barry says premature to jump to conclusions beforehand.

NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman personally spoke with Barry, who said that he, Pastrnak and Sweeney will indeed be sitting down in early July to discuss an extension, and that everyone should cool their jets on the premature trade talk.
Pastrnak has one year remaining on his 6-year, $40M contract, with a $6.67M cap hit.
