Dreger reports that Trotz informed the Winnipeg Jets of his decision today and that he intends on continuing to focus on family. The 59-year-old former New York Islanders coach said it was an extremely difficult decision to turn down the Jets' job, and thanked them for their consideration.
It doesn't really sound like a short-term thing, as Trotz says he isn't ruling out the possibility of returning to coaching "down the road."
Trotz is taking time to do what he needs to do, personally, but doesn’t rule out returning to coach down the road. He was deeply appreciative of Wpg Jets owner, Mark Chipman, GM Kevin Cheveldayoff, and all involved in this process and their commitment to winning. https://t.co/7I2JhOe9Z0

Trotz is a two-time Jack Adams winner as coach of the year in the NHL, and has a Stanley Cup championship under his belt. He's second all-time in games-coached, behind only Scotty Bowman.
