Blues Sign AHL Playoff MVP

The Blues have signed forward Josh Leivo to a one-year $750K contract.

Leivo makes for an intriguing signing as the reigning Calder Cup MVP has enjoyed success in the AHL, but has never quite been able to translate the minor league stats to the NHL. Perhaps, another shot in the NHL with the Blues will finally change that.

This past season, Leivo only appeared in seven games with the Hurricanes scoring one goal and two assists. In 54 games with the Chicago Wolves however, Leivo scored 22 goals and 24 assists for 46 total points. He took his game to another level in the playoffs, scoring 15 goals, 14 assists, for 29 total points in just 18 games. Those stats were good enough to win him the playoff MVP.

Career wise in the NHL, Leivo has played 214 games and scored 38 goals and 39 assists. In his AHL career, the twenty-nine year old has played 225 games, scoring 73 goals and 95 assists for 168 total points.

This is a very good low-risk high-reward signing by the St. Louis Blues.
