DONE DEAL: Colorado Avalanche & New York Rangers Pull Off Goalie Trade
The Colorado Avalanche have wasted no time trying to fill out their roster to run it back next season as the team has acquired goaltender Alexandar Georgiev from the New York Rangers.
OFFICIAL: #NYR have acquired a third-round and fifth-round selection in the 2022 NHL Draft, as well as a third-round pick in the 2023 NHL Draft, from Colorado in exchange for goaltender Alexandar Georgiev.

The #Avs never really presented Kuemper with an offer to stay, knowing that they wouldn’t be able to pay the market rate based on his track record. Cordial conversations, but he’s moving on with a Cup ring and a sizable payday in-store.

This trade comes on the heels of Avalanche general manager Joe Sakic talking contract extension with Darcy Kuemper, so all signs are pointing to that conversation not going so well for the Avs and a new direction was quickly found.

Georgiev is 26, and a pending restricted free agent in need of a new contract. He appeared in 33 regular season games last season, posting a 2.92 GAA and in two Stanley Cup Playoff games, was spectacular, recording a .935 save %. Interesting times as this is shaping up to be one of the craziest offseasons in recent memory.
There seems to be a sense of heightened possibilities of multiple trade scenarios involving notable NHL players, which if they happened tonight would spice up the draft considerably. The prospect of that perhaps happening is very exciting for hockey fans, but…
