Jets Moving On From Forward
The Jets have decided not to tender Evgeny Svechnikov a qualifying offer. As a result of this, the former first-round pick will become a UFA.
Svechnikov just completed his first season as a Jet after beginning his career with the Red Wings. The 25-year-old winger earned himself a spot on their NHL roster and managed to get into a lot of action from there. In 72 games on the year, he scored seven goals and recorded 19 points. Overall, it was a decent year for the forward, but it wasn't enough for a qualifying offer. Maybe the Hurricanes will give him a chance to play with his brother, Andrei.
Markus Phillips also was not handed a qualifying offer, so he will become a UFA later this week as well. The 23-year-old defenseman split this season between the Reign and Moose. In 45 AHL games, he had one goal and six assists.
