Maple Leafs Sign Goaltender
The Maple Leafs have signed Ilya Samsonov to a one-year, $1.8 million contract.
Samsonov was surprisingly not given a qualifying offer by the Capitals earlier this week, but now he has found a new home in Toronto. With this, he will form a new tandem with Matt Murray.
Samsonov is a former first-round pick who has had trouble reaching his full potential. His 2021-22 season wasn't the best either, as he had a 23-12-5 record but also an .896 SV%. Perhaps the change of scenery will be what helps him get back on track. Who knows? Maybe he can even beat Murray out and be the team's starter.
