New Jersey Devils Sign Clutch Playoff Performer
The New Jersey Devils have found their scoring winger as the team signed former Tampa Bay Lightning, and Mr Clutch Playoff Performer, Ondrej Palat to a five-year $30 million deal.
Palat brings a wealth of postseason experience to the Devils who were looking to add some scoring on the wing and some more experience. Winning two Stanley Cups and playing in the Finals last season will certainly go a long way for a young team in Jersey. Frankly though, Palat was plan B after Johnny Gaudreau signed with the Columbus Blue Jackets.
To give you an idea of how well he's played in the playoffs, Palat's last 71 playoff games, he's scored 27 goals and added 25 assists. Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman was first to report the news.
Palat is 31 and originally a seventh-round pick of the Lightning back in 2011. Tampa Bay had some cap issues as they wanted and did lock up some of their core to long-term deals, so someone was going to have to be shipped overboard and Palat and Ryan McDonagh were the two to leave.
