NHL Rumors: 2 Teams That Missed Out On Matthew Tkachuk
According to Frank Seravalli, the Hurricanes and Blues were in deep trade talks with the Flames on Matthew Tkachuk. Yet, they simply couldn't match the Panthers' offer, as evidenced by Tkachuk heading to Florida.
Sources say one of the teams that was in deepest in trade talks on Matthew Tkachuk (and also on his short list) over last few days: #Canes.

Believe #stlblues were also in deep as well, but you can understand with another 100-point player in the mix, why Cats had the upper hand.
The Hurricanes already made two blockbusters this offseason, as they of course landed Brent Burns and Max Pacioretty in separate trades. Yet, they clearly weren't satisfied with their moves, as Tkachuk was heavily on their radar. Could you imagine if Tkachuk ended up being a Hurricane? That would have made Carolina even scarier.
The Blues had a known interest in Tkachuk, and it's easy to understand why. He's a St. Louis native and his father of course is remembered most for his time playing there. Yet, the Blues just couldn't come up with a big enough offer to land him.
