When Friedman links a player to a team, there's very little doubt that they are in on the sweepstakes. The Capitals have some cap space to work and are expected to be active on the first day of free agency. Although Mikheyev isn't a star, he's a middle-six option who has been getting a lot of interest around the league.
Mikheyev just put together a strong 2021-22 season, so it makes sense that the Capitals want to sign him. In 53 games, he scored 21 goals and recorded 32 points. With that, he was an important part of the Leafs' penalty kill. Overall, he's a player who can offer a bit of everything. It'll be intriguing to see if Friedman is right, and the Caps end up winning the sweepstakes.
