NHL Rumors: Darcy Kuemper Heading to Eastern Conference
After winning a Stanley Cup with the Colorado Avalanche, goaltender Darcy Kuemper hits the open market on Wednesday. While there were some earlier reports of the Toronto Maple Leafs being an option, that's now off the table with the recent acquisition of Matt Murray. The Edmonton Oilers appear off the list of options as well, as Jack Campbell appears to be heading west. Kuemper on the other hand, sounds like he's heading east.
The Washington Capitals recently released Ilya Samsonov, a former first-round pick who was once dubbed the goalie of the future. This coming after the team dealt Vitek Vanecek to the New Jersey Devils, in a move that surprised some. So now, there's a giant hole in the Washington crease and Kuemper appears set to fill it.
It feels like it's going to be Jack Campbell in Edmonton and Darcy Kuemper in Washington when all is said and done tomorrow.

Friedman on 32TP talking Campbell/EDM and Kuemper: "Everything I'm hearing is that they're the favourites for his (Campbell) services...I think we'd all be surprised if he wasn't an Oiler and I think a lot of the predictions are that Darcy Kuemper is favourited to end up in WSH".

The 32-year-old Kuemper is likely going to sign a three-year contract worth $24-27 million when the market opens on Wednesday and from all accounts it sounds like Alex Ovechkin and company are going to be thrilled with the news.
