NHL Rumors: Devils Interested in 2 Free-Agent Goalies
The New Jersey Devils are an interesting team to watch this offseason because of a number of things. They have loads of cap space, they have high draft picks, and their general manager, Tom Fitzgerald is sick and tired of the rebuild and is looking for his hockey club to take the next step. Look for the Devils to start their search for another goaltender as soon as free agency opens on July 13.
2 Free-Agent Netminders at the Top of the Devils List:
Ville Husso
Husso is an interesting free agent just due to the fact he hasn't played a ton in the NHL, he's 27 years old and he's coming off a huge season getting paid league minimum. The St Louis Blues netminder has essentially been shown the door by the team as they made the switch back to Jordan Binnington in the postseason and now Husso heads to the open market looking to cash in as much as possible. There's certainly a risk here because of the service time, but Husso has strong connections to New Jersey's goalie coach and this seems like a secret that got out of the bag weeks ago. Expect to see the Devils make a serious run for signing the Finnish netminder.
Friedman on 32TP wonders if the Devils will take a run at Ville Husso, current Devils goalie coach Dave Rogalski was with St. Louis for a long time.

Jack Campbell
Tom Horak-USA TODAY Sports |
The Toronto Maple Leafs are having issues getting pen to paper with Jack Campbell and the two appear to be heading for a break up come July 13. Campbell is someone the Devils could pair with Mackenzie Blackwood as he's shown he's capable of playing in a tandem set up, or as the 1-A starter. 'Soup' is coming off a horrible Stanley Cup Playoff series where he posted a .897 save %. Overall, Campbell is still only 30 years old, has been lights out the past two regular seasons and is a beloved teammate with tons of character for the dressing room. If Husso doesn't sign, look for the Devils to give Campbell a long look.
