NHL Rumors: Devils Made a Run at Flames Matthew Tkachuk
According to reports, the New Jersey Devils were trying to be aggressive on the trade market with their #2 overall selection and contacted the Calgary Flames to see if there would be any interested including Matthew Tkachuk in a blockbuster deal. The Flames quickly shot down talks and the Devils ended up drafting defenseman Simon Nemec.

Tkachuk is just one order of business for the Flames as they also have contract talks with Johnny Gaudreau ongoing that are front and center for the franchise. Gaudreau is a pending unrestricted free agent, and Calgary has recently submitted their contract offer, however 'Johnny Hockey' has yet to update the team on his thoughts on the deal.
As for Tkachuk, he's a restricted free agent so a little less to worry about for Flames management over Gaudreau who could potentially walk as early as Wednesday. Certainly two big question marks hanging over the franchise at the moment, however the team continues to prioritize bringing both forwards back to Calgary and aren't interested in moving on just yet.
