NHL Rumors: Edmonton Oilers To Trade Winger
At this point of the offseason, the Oilers have just under $70,000 of cap space. This is certainly concerning, as they have RFAs like Kailer Yamamoto, Jesse Puljujarvi, and Ryan McLeod who need new contracts. As a way to gain more salary, Edmonton is actively trying to move Warren Foegele.
Finding a new home for Foegele isn't going to be an easy task for the Oilers, however. The 26-year-old has a 2.75 million cap hit until the end of the 2023-24 season. With that, he struggled during his first year as an Oiler. In 82 regular-season games, he scored 12 goals and had 26 points. He was also a nonfactor during the playoffs, as his one assist and minus-5 rating show.
Due to the Oilers desperately needing to move out salary, it's hard to believe that teams would be willing to give up assets for Foegele. In fact, any move centering around the winger may force Edmonton to give up a sweetener or two. Alas, time will tell if they will be able to find a trading partner from here.
