NHL Rumors: Flames Offered Johnny Gaudreau Massive Pay Day
If Johnny Gaudreau leaves the Calgary Flames, it won't be over dollars and cents. It will likely be what makes sense on the ice for Gaudreau after Flames general manager Brad Treliving offered Gaudreau a maximum eight-year deal worth $10 million per season.
My sense is #Flames have put an offer on the table for Johnny Gaudreau - north of $10 mil x 8 years - that would make him not only highest-paid player in Calgary franchise history, but among richest in #NHL.

If Gaudreau walks, it likely won't be because of money.
After a 115-point season and in the prime of his career, there's going to be a ton of interest in 'Johnny Hockey'. Have to give Calgary credit for getting serious and going in with a massive offer, it feels like if he was going to re-sign on the red mile, it would be a no-brainer and be done by now. Some in the Flames front office said months ago the extension was all but done, seems like that vibe has changed dramatically these past few days.
Once Gaudreau hits the open market, the Philadelphia Flyers are expected to make a massive offer, so too are the New Jersey Devils. The Carolina Hurricanes are a solid team with a ton of cap space and the Dallas Stars could be a wildcard to consider.
